Loss of a Community Leader
The Weatherford area lost a leader in the community due to a fatal automobile accident last Saturday night. Roger Grizzard, 72, was the owner of The Pizza Place on South Main Street, a Weatherford College trustee, and President of the WISD Education Foundation. Roger taught government, social studies, and economics at Weatherford High School for 21 years.
Roger combined his roles as a business owner and teacher to apply real-world experiences for his students, hiring dozens of them for part-time jobs and serving as a role model for them. Many of those former students and employees have shared the life lessons that they learned from him. Grizzard was also a tireless supporter of any school activity that was benefitting students.
Roger was also a member of First Baptist Church of Weatherford. We talk and write a lot about engaging our community with a servant spirit and doing upside down ministry that looks outward from the church building. Roger took that spirit with him each day and his influence reached far beyond the walls of the church.
As of this writing, Roger’s wife has been released from the hospital and their adult son is still being treated for severe injuries. Anyone who would like to donate in support of the family’s needs can do so in a variety of ways.
